Futurity reports that bans on vaping products could backfire and may actually keep more people smoking. While the intention is made to “prevent minors from vaping”, it could make kicking the cigarette habit harder, two professionals say.
Experts David Abrams and Ray Niaura, professors of social and behavioral sciences at the New York University College of Global Public Health and co-directors of the Tobacco Research Lab, coauthored a paper in 2017 in Tobacco Control that showed if most American smokers switched from cigarettes to vaping over the next 10 years, it could save as many as 6.6 million lives.
Vaping has been a hot issue for supporters, as they are constantly having to defend the right of choice to be smoke free.
