The Washington Post reports that the FDA has disclosed today that the ongoing investigation that has sickened at least 530 people and resulted in 7 deaths opened up a parallel criminal investigation. The FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations have been working on the probe since the illnesses were first reported earlier this summer.
FDA Center for Tobacco Products Director Mitch Zeller says, “The focus is on the supply chain.”
The office is not pursuing prosecution of people for personal use of any controlled substances, he said.
According to “health experts”, a single product or substance has been identified as the culprit as the investigations continue. They suspect that a form of chemical exposure has made the patients ill.
