Mail Tribune reports that HB2270 passed the Oregon House Committee yesterday and now moves onto the Joint Committee on Tax Expenditures before getting a floor vote. The proposed legislation hopes to increase tax on cigarettes by $2 per pack as well as considers a nicotine tax on vaping products, for the simple purpose of taxing the products. The latest version of the bill also looks to impose a floor tax of $3 per cigar.
If passed by voters, the revenue would fund the Oregon Health Plan as well as anti-smoking efforts and go into effect in 2021.
