CNBC is reporting that President Trump will nominate Stephen Hahn as FDA Commissioner as soon as next week. The Texan doctor will fill the role currently held by acting FDA chief, Ned Sharpless.
Hahn is a radiation oncologist and chief medical executive at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Sharpless, the former director of the National Cancer Institute, was thought to be one of the top candidates to be nominated by Trump for the post of permanent chief of the Food and Drug Administration, which he assumed the role of earlier this year, after Scott Gottlieb resigned.
The appointment of the FDA Commissioner will require confirmation by the Senate.
