Washington’s Governor Jay Inslee singed HB1873 into law earlier this week, KUOW reports. This new tax will cripple the vaping industry in the Evergreen State.
This penning allows a new wholesale tax of $0.09 per millimeter on e-liquid containers larger than 5 millimeters and $0.27 per millimeter for all other vape products.
Half of the revenue will benefit a cancer research fund and the other half goes to fund a range of other health programs.
Inslee made his move against the objections of vape shop owners, who rallied outside of his signature sweeping event that turned HB1873 into law. Owners fearful that the new tax will harm their businesses.
The act takes effect October 1st.
